Fresh and delicious is our main focus, but we love making our baked goods as beautiful as they are tasty.

We’re passionate about our cakes, and we’re certain that you can taste that love in everything that we bake.

Our cakes are baked to order and while we’re at it, we try to bake an extra one or two, but we do bake in small batches and, while our name might be FactoryGirl, this is no cake factory. If you’re looking for a cake from us, best bet is to order ahead of time - a week or more ahead of time is great, by Thursday the week of, we’re usually booked or options are very limited. But give us a try even if it’s late notice - if we can fit you in, or if we have a spare ready-to-go cake, we’ll be happy to work it out for you! We are currently working on a schedule where cakes are done for pick-ups Wednesday late afternoons through Sunday mornings. If your event is on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday morning, you’ll need to pick up on Sunday. Please call us Wednesday through Saturday 11-6 to place your order. 267.740.2354. Please note: during the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Christmas, we do not take any cake orders other than our special-menu offerings for those weeks.

While we call ourselves a modern-classic bakery, we do things a little differently than the old-school joints. We don’t do piped borders, and colors and pictures and excessive decoration just really aren’t our thing. We say we make cakes that look like cakes, and we usually can’t resist adding a leaf or a flower or a sprig of something in season to give it a little natural touch of pretty.

Our buttercream really is delicious. We do a Swiss meringue buttercream, which is lighter, and slightly less sweet and greasy than classic American buttercream. If you’re a fan of frosting, you might opt for the “buttercream rosettes” for decoration on your cake, like in this pic. We favor all-white frosting, but we’ll do pink, too. Other colors aren't really our wheelhouse.

Decorating with fresh flowers is one thing we’re known for. Whenever possible, we use local, organically-grown flowers. In season, we grow most of our flowers in our own on-site garden. While all of the varieties we use for decoration are non-toxic, most are not really delicious. We recommend removing flowers before serving. (Shown here is our 9” coconut cake. It’s big!)

We’re happy to pipe a message on your cake - no additional charge. “Happy Birthday {your name here}” is pretty standard and says it well, but we’ll also be happy to put your favorite quote or line of poetry or song on there, if you’d like. We pipe in chocolate, no colors.

We don’t do gluten-free cakes, but we do do this vegan chocolate cake with vegan chocolate ganache, and it’s so good you would NEVER know it’s made without eggs or dairy. Oh man, it’s so rich and delicious, this is the go-to when you’re looking for an all-chocolate cake.

While our standard cakes are all two-layer, we can get fancy if you want! Shown here is a bit of a taller cake, with three layers, and we’ve added all-white sprinkle sides to it. And fresh flowers, of course. If you’re looking to go fancy like this, give a call at least a week ahead. We do tiered cakes, too.

Let’s talk flavors.

Chocolate Stout Cake

Our favorite, and our most popular. A dense, dark, not-too-sweet chocolate cake, with vanilla filling and frosting. Available in 6”, 8”, or 10” size. *Contains stout beer - but you absolutely do not taste it. The alcohol content bakes out of it, it just creates some magic richness and moisture.

Coconut Cake

Coconut cake, with vanilla filling and frosting, and then the top and sides are covered in shredded coconut. *If you want writing, we’ll leave the coconut off the top. Available in 6” and 9” size.

Brown Sugar + Bourbon Cake

A light cake base, but with brown sugar instead of white sugar, and bourbon instead of vanilla - gives it a richer, and slightly boozy flavor. Brown-sugar buttercream. *As it gets brushed with a bourbon syrup, this cake isn’t really a kids cake… 6”, 8” or 10”

The Vanilla/Vanilla/Vanilla

Vanilla cake, with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream filling and frosting. *If you wanna spice it up a bit, we’re happy to do raspberry jam, or chocolate, between the layers instead of vanilla. Available in 6”, 8”, or 10” size.

Carrot Cake

Developed by my sister and me for our grandmother’s 80th birthday celebration, it’s become a family and Factory Girl favorite! With or without raisins and/or walnuts. Cream cheese filling and frosting. Available in 6” and 9” size. Not available as cupcakes or tiered cake.

Vanilla+Lavender

A light vanilla sponge cake, flavored with what we think is just the right touch of lavender and a hint of honey. Blackberry jam filling. Milk chocolate frosting - can be honey+vanilla frosting if you prefer. It all works together soooo well. Available as 6” or 8” size.

Confetti Cake

Our vanilla cake base, with sprinkles mixed in. We do it with a chocolate ganache or vanilla filling, with vanilla frosting with rainbow sprinkles swirled in to make it like a confetti look. 6”, 8”, 10”.

Rose and Rosé Cake - seasonal - back next Spring!

My inspiration for this cake was the 1960’s pink champagne cake and it took me almost two years to get right. Rosewater, rosé, and vanilla combine for a a light and delicious flavor, without the artificial pink. Finished with a vanilla+rose frosting. Not available Nov-April!

Vegan Vanilla (*new!)

This has been years in the making - testing vanilla vegan cake recipes, we’ve finally got the magic formula. Vanilla cake base, with freeze-dried strawberries OR (vegan) rainbow sprinkles added to the mix. Vanilla filling+frosting. Available as 6” or 8”.

Chocolate+Chocolate Cake

A lighter chocolate base than our stout cake, with a rich and creamy chocolate ganache filling and frosting. It’s THE combo for the chocolate lover. (Hard to believe, but this delicious cake is egg and dairy free.) Available in 6” or 8” size.

Orange+Almond+Poppy Cake

The orange+almond combo is unique, and the flavor is delicious. Moist, dense, and studded with poppyseeds, the cake is then finished off with a buttercream that has a tiny bit of almond extract and orange zest, flecked with poppyseeds. Available in 6”, 8”, or 10” size.

SIZE?

We say a 6” cake serves up to 10, an 8” cake serves up to 16, a 9” cake serves up to 20, and a 10” cake could serve up to 28/30, but you’ll need to look up one of those cake-cutting guides rather than just cutting wedges for that one. We also do tiered cakes.

And how would you like it to look?

All of our cakes are freshly baked and frosted to order - all 100% from scratch using only pure, real ingredients. (butter, sugar, eggs, flour…) That’s a good start and right away you are getting a delicious, quality cake, so you could just keep it simple and you’re winning already. We’re happy to send it out the door as is, or we can add a little writing to the top and maybe even pop some sprinkles of your choice on there. All of those options are standard cake price with no additional charges.

Or, we can get fancy - and honestly, a little bit fancy is what we’re known for. We can add buttercream rosettes - we tend to do it in the same color as your frosting, and we go in a cresent-moon shape, or we can totally cover the cake, if you like the kind of decoration you can eat. Or, we can go the fresh-flowers route. This is our specialty and it seems to make folks (and us) happy. We grow, forage, and source all of our blooms locally and we love how cakes with them tend to reflect the season. We can add minimal floral (and/or fruit, when in season), or we can go big; you can let us know what your occasion and your budget calls for.

And if you wanna get fancier than that, we can! Fully-crusted sprinkle sides (white, rainbow, or other - or coconut, even), textured frosting, pressed flowers, chocolate ganache drips - all things we are happy to do. We do tend to keep things a little more on the simple side — we don’t do any shaped cakes, drawing or painting on cakes or specialty cake art. We also are not keen on copying the work of other cake artists, but if you have a vision, get in touch and we’ll see how we can make it happen!

Of course we do cupcakes! Our standard decoration style is with a rosette-style frosting. We’re happy to add a leaf-style flourish for a more floral look. And we’ve got about every color sprinkle in the rainbow, so while we tend to keep our frosting colors light and simple, we can go nuts with the sprinkles, if you choose. If you wanna get more fancy, we’re happy to. We can add fresh flowers and/or seasonal fruit (when available) and herbs, or we can do our fancy bouquet style frosting, as in pics 4 & 8. Minimum order for bouquet cupcakes is 18.

Minimum order for vanilla, chocolate, or half-vanilla/half-chocolate cupcakes is one dozen. Minimum order for specialty flavors - orange+almond+poppy, brown sugar+bourbon, rose and rosé, vanilla+lavender, or coconut is one dozen. Also available in one-dozen minimim is vegan vanilla with strawberry or confetti style, or vegan chocolate. We do not do gluten-free cakes or cupcakes. Yes, we do mini cupcakes - minimum order is two dozen.

We bake a lot of things besides cakes and cupcakes! Scones, breads, pies, cookies, brownies, cream puffs, our home-made pop tarts (both regular size and mini size), tarts, pound cakes and lots more. Some items are seasonal/special, some we’re willing to whip up with enough advanced notice.  We’ll update this section when we get a chance, but for now, feel free to call the bakery if you’re looking for something specific, or check out our Instagram or Facebook for our latest additions and offerings.

Currently, we are open Fridays 10-4, Saturdays 11-4, and Sundays 9am-noon for walk-up service with no pre-order necessary.  On Sunday mornings, we bake up fresh cinnamon buns, scones, muffins, loaves of our English Muffin Bread, pop tarts, cupcakes and more. Cakes and other goods can be ordered for pick-up Wednesday afternoon through Sunday at noon.  To order, please call the bakery Wed-Sat 11-6. For full selection, we ask that you place your order at least a week in advance — shorter time frame than that, we’ll do what we can, but we may be booked to the point where we have limitation on size and flavors available for order. Outside of business hours and at least a week in advance, you can send an order request.
